A West Virginia native, Jay is proud to have received his Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting and Quantitative Business Management from West Virginia University. While studying, Jay played for the Mountaineer's rugby team and was a member of Sigma Nu. Despite his extra commitments with athletics and social clubs, he was still able to successfully graduate Cum Laude from WVU in 1978.

After working for 1 year at a CPA firm in West Virginia, Jay began making his trek down south to Florida. Growing up visiting Fort Pierce, Florida each Christmas, Jay knew early on that he wanted to end up in the Sunshine State. He spent the beginning of his accounting career in personal income tax preparation and business entities involving corporate audits. He began making the move towards local governmental agencies, and is now concentrated in non-profit organizations as well as governmental entities.

Jay embraced the technological revolution early on and is proud to be a self taught computer systems specialist and in charge of the firm's systems department. Reading and studying about computers and other advancing technology has kept him up to date on new and more efficient ways to serve his clients at DMHB. He was interested in technology not only to benefit him professionally, but also on a personal level, and made it a point to teach his own sons about technology. In turn, he now finds these days that they have become the teachers, and he the student.

At present, Jay is a member of GFOA, FGFOA, FICPA and AICPA. He is also the Treasurer of the Boys & Girls Club of St. Lucie County. He is very active in his church, helping to organize and handle the church's financial needs. To relax, Jay enjoys spending the day on his boat. He is also admittedly a fitness addict, noting that it is by far the best thing a person can be addicted to.

Jay's 2 sons, Jacob and Jordan, both graduated from St. Lucie West Centennial High School in Port Saint Lucie. Jacob went on to earn a Bachelors Degree in civil engineering, graduating Magna Cum Laude from the University of Florida and subsequently a masters degree in coastal engineering. He is working for an international coastal engineering firm in Florida. Luckily, his career in Jacksonville even brings him to the Treasure Coast to work on reconstruction and innovations to areas such as Indian River Drive. Jordan graduated from the University of Florida Magna Cum Laude in Economics and received his masters degree from University College of London in International Relations and currently works as a special agent for the U.S. Department of State. Both sons settled on pursuing interests and careers matching their own skills and abilities, and leave the accounting to their father.
